Dear Praying Friends
This post is very blessed and memorable. It brings back the Great Faithfulness of Our Loving Saviour’s encouragement in a time of great testing.
These words came in power in year 1977/8 BHS JSM time
Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:
10 For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.
11 And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
To understand these words let us go back in time to those testing days.
After year 1976 in Craig Road Jsm the call to serve in BHS JSM lasted for two years – 1977 & 1978

Year of 1977 in BHS Jsm started with 4 Brothers in the 1st Men Fellowship.
All through year 1977 we had a blessed time of Worship, Doctrinal Class, Student’s Club, Bible Study & Prayer Meetings
By Year end we had the BLESSED REVIVAL CAMP ON PENANG HILL where more than 30 Young Men & Young Women were called to Full Time Service
After the Revival Camp Bro Lucky (Amos) said we should go to the Mission Stations to do Evangelism Work
Only God knows much later BHS Jsm will be the chosen Mission to hold that 1978 Evangelistic Campaign
But not so easy
THERE WAS OPPOSITION FROM THE POWERS OF DARKNESS
See next entry in our 1978 Diary (Journal) dated 2nd January 1978
We quote verbatim
Brother Lucky spoke to J.K. AND Karen this morning.
Announced the conflict in the Mission. Sister B. broke down and wept. Had a talk with her.
Above tells us there was conflict ongoing then
Now see this entry below
“Was oppressed by evil spirits to-night. Heard a whole gang downstairs. Rebuked them sharply in Jesus Name.
We wept when brother Lucky depart for Penang.
What actually happened in BHS JSM on that night in January 2nd 1978?
BHS JSM was a Corner HDB Shophouse with 2 Storey. Ground Floor is used as a Kindergarten in the Week Days. Children Used Those Benches as Desk for their Study. These same Benches are Used as Church Pews for Church Services during the Weekends. On Saturday there is a lively, vibrant Student’s Club & on Sunday a hive of activities : Soul Winning at 12 noon. Adult Bible Study Class at 3pm & Sunday Afternoon Worship at 4pm.
Upstairs is a Hall with 2 Rooms
I used to sleep upstair in the Hall
This particular night of nights I heard a whole gang of evil spirits “DRUMMING” the Benches downstairs.
The noise gets louder and Louder and LOUDER until it was unbearable so I got up
and said, “I COMMAND YOU EVIL SPIRITS TO LEAVE IN THE NAME OF JESUS!!!”
At that the whole place fell silence.
That was the beginning of a battle.
“The powers of darkness fiercely oppose;
When slaves from their bonds we free.
Our path may beset with desperate foes;
But none of these things move me”
By The Marecale (daughter of William Booth
To be continued…
(Above as quoted)
Now there were these misgivings
- A young brother came up and said, “I don’t trust you”.
- Brother Lucky spoke to J.K. AND Karen this morning.Announced the conflict in the Mission. Sister B. broke down and wept. Had a talk with her.
- Another by the name of C.P brought me to a coffee shop and wanting to talk. Arriving there I was surprised to see Bro Chin Seng who had left JSM and now spoke opposing words.
I told C.P, “Why you purposely put me in a difficult position as SOMers are not allowed to meet with those who left Mission for whatever reason”
4. 2 to 3 Law Students And one by the Name of L. spoke against me. Then all left the Mission
5. One active Sister in leadership from BHS Jsm left to start another Church with a Leading Brother from Craig Road Jsm.
6 .In the Men’s Fellowship what happened?
See
Year of 1977 in BHS Jsm started with 4 Brothers in the 1st Men Fellowship.
Above 100 members or more only less than 4% of the Men were out for Men Fellowship
Conditions were quite deplorable and lots of undercurrents in discontent
In my lowest moment forsaken by almost all came these words of promise in power
“Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:
10 For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.
Contemporary English Version
I am with you, and you won’t be harmed. Many people in this city belong to me.”
Persecution befell Paul everywhere
[11] Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. [12] Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. In Thessalonica he fled to Berea; from Berea he fled to Athen; from Athen he fled to Corinth
Here in Corinth the LORD said,
Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:
10 For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have many people in this city.
Since the LORD said He has many people in Corinth Paul stayed there longer for another 1 year and 6 months
God being the Faithful God saved many many souls in Corinth
Paul wrote 14 of the 27 New Testament Books
And he wrote 2 Epistles to the Corinthian Church: 1 Corinthians & 2 Corinthians
Romans, Galatians, Colossian, Ephesians, Philemon only got one letter each. God sent two letters to the Corinthians
The only other Church is Thessalonica which God also gave 2 letters. He also wrote 2 letters to Timothy regarding the Pastorate and one to Titus

Pastor John said we borrowed the Address of Life Church in Gilstead Road from Rev Dr Timothy Tow for the Church Registered Address
Since we already used the Address it would be better to conduct meetings there as well
So on Sunday Evening Circa 1994 we met in Life’s Church small meeting hall for Services.

by Pastor John Khng
1) All Have Sinned
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” – Rom. 3:23
The “All” includes you and me.
2) Sin’s Penalty
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – Rom. 6:23
3) Christ Paid the Penalty
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” – Rom. 5:8
4) Salvation is a Gift of God
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.” – Eph. 2:8,9.
5) You must Repent from your sin and put your Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” – Rom 10:9-10
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” – John 1:12
6) The Bible’s Invitation
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” – Rom. 10:13 The “whosoever” includes you and me. God invites you to “call” or pray to Him. Will you do this right now?
7) Prayer for Salvation
Dear Almighty God,
Please be merciful to me, a sinner. I would like to repent of my sins and to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. I believe that He died on the cross for my sins, was buried and rose again the third day. I would like to receive Him into my heart right now to save me from my sins. Thank you that through trusting the Lord Jesus Christ, I am now a child of God and have eternal life. Help me from today onward to worship you faithfully, read the Bible regularly, pray and live the Christian life with your help and grace. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen!
Please write to Pastor John Khng at calvarysg@yahoo.com to inform him about your prayer for salvation and how you have become a Christian. He would like to rejoice together with you and to help you grow spiritually in the knowledge and faith of our Lord Jesus Christ.
